The AR-15 was adopted by the United States military, under the designation of M16. It is also marketed to civilian and law enforcement agencies, and is popular due to its accuracy. It was commonly used during the Vietnam War. However the terrain of Vietnam showed the most significant problem with the AR-15, it could easily jam due to bad weather conditions or mud. It is still used today in most NATO armies, even the USA reused this weapon in war. However newer models of the gun are beginning to replace the old M16 or Ar-15 design in some armies.

The civilian use of the AR-15 has been highly controversial due to its frequent use in terrorist attacks; both from rebel organizations and lone wolfs. In the USA, the AR-15 was used in multiple massacres: with a noticeable increase of public and school shootings in the 2010s. Lawmakers and political groups continue to debate the limitations of the Second Amendment, the implementation of background checks in regards to age and mental illness, and bump stocks and other tools that can illegally modify the weapon. An estimated 8 million AR-style guns have been sold since they were introduced to the public in the 1960s.

In Taliban vs IRA[]

This weapon was tested against the Taliban's AK-47. The AR-15 was capable of hitting a smaller target, meaning it was more accurate. The AK-47 was the victor of a reliability test involving mud, but the footage revealed that both rifles had been safetied. Geoff Desmoulin decided to take the assault rifles into his own hands to decide. In his test, Geoff liked the AR-15 better, earning it the win.

In Back for Blood Special (Spetsnaz vs IRA)[]

The footage of season one was reviewed for the AR-15 ArmaLite and AK-74 Carbine. It was agreed that the Armalite was the more accurate weapon, but the AK-74 was the more durable weapon; hence, the result was a draw.

Trivia[]

This weapon won the edge over Taliban's AK-47, but tied with Spetsnaz's AK-74 Carbine.
